Many fly fishermen’s favorite fly patterns were accidents or took several attempts to get just right, and the No Tail Mac Gruber Midge is no exception. We were given this pattern to tie hundreds of dozens for a shop. What they did not pay attention to was that there was no tail on the fly. They got back hundreds of dozens like the sample. That created quite a stir, but the pattern proved to be a winner. So not all accidents are a bad thing!
